A park will be opened in Silivri, on the outskirts of Istanbul, in commemoration of poet Ahmet Erhan, who died of cancer on Aug. 4, 2013. The inauguration ceremony will be held on Sept.27, 2013 at 4pm.
The decision was taken by the municipality after a request by the poet İhsan Tevfik, taking into consideration the fact that Erhan had spent in Silivri his last years and there he had published his last books. The park will be known as “Şair Ahmet Erhan Parkı”.
As I wrote in the post of Sept. 11 containing the translation of one of Erhan’s most famous poems, the news of his death has aroused a really wide emotion among the Turkish readers and writers. The initiative of the Silivri municipality, I am sure, is only the first one, but similar ones are expected to come around Turkey!
